Cluster headache is neurological disorder characterized by recurrent headache , mostly one one side of attack around the eye.
It is associated with nausea, vomiting, runny nose, cunjuctivitis, photophobia, muscle spasm and photophonia.
Exact cause is not known but following factor are associated:
Family history
Genetic predisposition
Smoking and alcohol consumption
Hypothalamus pathology
Vascular pathology: dilation of blood vessels lead to more blood in brain and more pressor on
trigeminal nerve produce headache.
For exact diagnosis consult the
neurologist and get the necessary investigation like MRI, CBC, ESR, Refraction, blood sugars, hormone profile.
Advice:
Keep your headache diary: avoid triggering factor
Verapamil,
prednisolone and topiramate used to prevent attack.
For attack
Tablet/Injection tramadol
Oxygen inhalation
Sumatriptan : can be given subcutaneously or intranasaally
Other drugs like opioid and octreotide can be used in non responding case.
Start exercising
Take healthy diet
Avoid excessive light and noise
Avoid smoking an alcohol
Sleep at least 8 hours
Accupuncture therapy may be useful
