Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
My husband, 5 days post op, had robotic double hernia repair. (Please note, he had prostate cancer several years ago with the prostate being removed.) He has stopped taking the Norco and is trying to deal with swelling and discomfort by taking Tylenol. He has started with the cold chills and hot flashes. Could this be due to not having a prostate or something else we should be concerned about?
Having cold chills and hot flashes after having hernia surgery. His history of removing his prostate for prostate cancer is not likely related to his current symptoms.
The only concern I would have with his chills and hot flashes would be if he is having a fever with these symptoms.
A fever of 100.4 or higher could be a sign of a developing infection, possibly from the surgical site or from pneumonia or urinary tract infection.
I would check his temperature when he has these symptoms and watches for any redness, drainage, or increased pain from the surgical site, cough, or burning with urination.
If he develops any of these signs, I would recommend letting the surgeon know and being evaluated immediately.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Take care
Regards,
Dr Aaron Branch, General & Family Physician
