Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
What Causes Cold And Cough Along With Red Rashes Around The Mouth?
My son has had a lingering cold for two weeks. The virus triggered an asthmatic cough, which we are treating with albuterol. (This has happened before.). We have taken our son to the doctor twice, and he agreed that it was just a cold. But a few days ago, my son developed red marks around his mouth. I have never seen this before. Should we be concerned? All of the cold symptoms continue.
Cold and cough along with red rashes around mouth seems to be due to vitamin deficiency, irritation of mucosa due to food, fruits and drinks, and underlying diseases that weaken immune system. It could be mainly herpes infection. They usually go away by their own without any treatment in week or two or by avoiding trigger factor. Take diet rich in vitamin C. Apply some antimicrobial ointment. Do warm saline gargles. Take proper course of antibiotics along with anti-inflammatory medications. If condition persist after 2 weeks then consult ENT specialist for proper examination and to rule out other causes.
Hope your concern has been resolved.
Best Wishes, Dr. Harry Maheshwari
