What Causes Cold And Sore Throat?

My daughter has had a cold and sore throat for several days now, she feels good for a period and then not so good. Four days ago she had a fever and has not had one since then. Could she have strep throat after all this time? I m wondering if I should bring her in for a test or if it s just a lingering cold with a sore throat.

I have gone through your query and can understand your concerns..

As per your complain it seems that you are suffering viral infection leading to cold, fever and sore throat..
It can be a recurring infection or there is a possibility that the previous infection has lingered and flared up..
As it is a viral infection it will not resolve with antibiotics as the antibiotics acts against bacteria and not viruses..
The infection will however resolve once the virus will complete its cycle in human body..
As of now you can start with supportive treatment to relieve the symptoms like:
Give her a combination of Tylenol and Ibuprofen to relieve fever and sore throat..
Make her do warm saline gargles..
If she has cough cough suppressants can help..
You should give her a semisolid diet, plenty of fluids and appropriate rest..

In case of no relieve in a week consult a General Physician and get her evaluated..
