Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
What Causes Cold And Swollen Legs After Receiving A Cortisone Shot?
yesterday I got a cortisone injection in my arthritic left knee. A few hours later I suddenly developed a very runny nose, which lasted for several hours. A few hours later I noticed that my legs had swollen up hugely. I went to bed and slept for several hours but have been awake now for several more. My body feels like it is wound up too tight. These must be adverse side effects to the injection. Is there anything I can do to relieve this feeling? My palms are sweaty and I can feel my heart.
Yes, it is possible to develop allergy to Hydrocortisone injection or it may be due to side effects of steroids. Steroids may cause fluid retention and edema of the body. Also check for limbs edema due to cellulitis or infection. Elevate the limbs, use anti-histamine for runny nose.
If symptoms not improved please consult your orthopedician he will examine and treat you accordingly.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
