What Causes Cold Like Symptoms With Cough Due To Nasal Drips?

I am 67 yrs old and smoked for years, I have cold like symptoms, but feel it's not a cold. It's been around for six weeks, think something maybe going with my sinus or nasal cavities. the cough feels generated from nasal drip instead of congestion in my lungs. email is YYYY@YYYY

I have gone through your query and can understand your concerns..

As per your complain cold like symptoms but not having cold exactly can be due to Sinus infection or Sinusitis as at times the symptoms of post nasal drip, congestion, nasal drainage and cough due to irritation of throat with post nasal drip and all these can be symptoms of Sinusitis..
I would suggest you to consult an Otolaryngologist and get evaluated and a thorough clinical evaluation and investigations like PNS VIEW x ray or MRI scan of sinuses can help in diagnosis and treatment can be done accordingly..
In case if Sinusitis is diagnosed you can be advised to take antibiotics like Levofloxacin, anti inflammatory painkiller like Ibuprofen,decongestant like Phenylephrine or Pseudoephadrine, mucolytics like Ambroxol, anti allergics like Benadryl, cough suppressant like Dextromethorphan and along with it steam inhalation, saline nasal irrigation and decongestant nasal spray can be advised..
Avoid chilled foods and air conditioning atmosphere..
