Hello chantelle,
In your query you have mentioned that your boyfriend stood on a nail, but you havent mentioned about any wound and the depth of the wound. So I'm assuming here that it must be a little deep wound. And now that you have mentioned about numbness it would be helpful if you can tell me if there is any selling or redness around that area.

our feet especially our soles have very rich nerve supply. And any penetrating injury as is this case may cause injury to the nerves in that area resulting in numbness and cold foot.Another cause of numbness can be infection which may result in a swollen foot which when left untreated may lead to vascular compromise and may endanger the limb. This is a cause of concern but u need not panic.
So my advice to you based on the information you gave in your query is
1. Please take vaccination for the wound.
2. Keep the wound clean and keep it dressed.
3. Consult a GP and have them look at wound.
4. I know it is tempting but dont keep the foot under very cold or very hot water.
5. Avoid wearing tight shoes.

I wish I could have a look at the foot but as this is not possible I strongly advice you to get the wound checked by a GP or a general surgeon at the earliest.
Hope your concerns have been answered.
