What Causes Cold Sores At The Corner Of Mouth Of A Child?
My granddaughter is 5 yrs old, she had a blister on top of each thumb which has popped open on its own, now it looks like she has a cold sore on the corner of her mouth and two more sores on her cheek. The sores are red, slightly raised with a white pin point spot in the middle.
As per your query your granddaughter has cold sore . Well cold sores are small blisters that develop on the lips or around the mouth. They are caused by the herpes simplex virus and usually clear up without treatment within 7 to 10 days. I would suggest you to use antiviral creams are available over the counter or apply betadine with cotton swab on affected area . Avoid touching , picking and scratching of the lesions . If condition doesn't get better in 10 days then consult dermatologist for proper examination and to rule out condition like canker sore , allergic reaction or bacterial infection. Doctor may prescribe antiviral drugs like aciclovir and famciclovir .
Hope your concern has been resolved.
Best Wishes, Dr. Harry Maheshwari
