What Causes Concentration, Learning And Communication Issues After Taking Valparin?

Hello Doctor, This is suneetha, from Visakhapatnam, my son got seizures in 2009, at that time he had temperature of 102 in the early morning, at that time he didn t respond to us, by 15-20 minutes he waked up. As we consult a doctor, they admitted my son for supervision, and take the MRI scan and EEG etc., and put in PICU, and suggested to use valparin for twice a day, for 3 years I used it for 2&1/2 years. Now he had no problem of seizures, he had the problem in studies and not to communicate properly with others. Is these are the problems of taking the valparin. Please give me the reply and give me the suggestions to how to overcome.

Hello,

As per my clinical experience, the Valparin contains Valproic acid, widely used anti epileptic medication. As with other medications, the Valparin is also associated with variety of side effects as:
- Drowsiness
- Headache
- Lethargy
- Appetite reduction
- weight changes
- back ache
- mood changes
- Problems in focusing
- Mood swinging
- Abnormal thinking
- Agitation
- Others

Kindly discuss the same with his treating neurophysician for further guidelines and cure accordingly.
