Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
My husband is 10 days post-spine surgery and we re in a rehab center. Today, he had an incident of confusion; he could not form words or thoughts for about 15 minutes. The nursing staff checked him but seem unconcerned. He is fine now, but he keeps saying that something has happened. What is your best advice for any action on our part? Do we just wait for him to stroke out? Thank you. cece
No, I have worked in ICU setup a lot and have found out these types of symptoms would be due to electrolyte imbalance rather than other etiology.
In ICU we usually get an ABG which gives a complete picture of oxygen exchange. Even serum electrolytes can be taken. Maybe hyponatremia could be the cause and can be corrected. So talk to your doctor about it.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards, Dr. Archana
