What Causes Confusion And Impaired Thoughts In A Diabetic Patient?
My brother in law is diabetic, fragile health, refuses to go to the doctor or ER. He is 69 and has been having episodes of confusion. He is in very poor health and has no quality of life. Lies on couch most of the time, has a bed sore on his bottom, lives right next to us. My husband stays with him several hours a day. He is calling us and telling us he is feeling lost . Could this be from decrease of oxygen to the brain? He keeps saying he just wants to go to sleep. Any idea what could be happening? He gets very angry if we mention going to the ER or doctor. He does have a primary care doctor.
Hello, If a person has diabetes and if treatment is not adequate, then there can be multiple problems. At that age there is also a possibility of increased blood pressure along with diabetes. Since no details are mentioned about blood glucose levels and HbA1c% and BP readings, plus any other signs related to the disease, it is very difficult to comment. If he has developed bed sore then it needs to be properly treated otherwise due to diabetes it can become a severe problem. Strict blood glucose control is a must. Thanks
