What Causes Confusion And Sleep Walking?

Dr. Rynne: Went through a period of several weeks where every night almost after about 2-3 hours sleep woke w/ confusion, disorientation, sleepwalking. Could last 1 + hour - seemed able to abort w/ 400 mg caffeine & maybe Rx Nuvigil. Thought @ time b/c Saphris even w/ only 5 mg at bedtime though used to benefit from 10 mg twice daily for a period before that. Seemed to go away when discontinued Saphris but had it last night. Could it be due to Rapaflo or Flomax? Seemed maybe had it while on Rapaflo and maybe went away w/ Flomax b/c took Rapaflo instead, last night, and had it for 1st time in awhile. Thanks.

Internal Medicine Specialist 's  Response
Hi,

Sleepwalking characteristically occurs during the first or second sleep cycle during stage 3 of the sleep cycle.

Sleep deprivation, chaotic sleep schedules, fever, stress, magnesium deficiency, and alcohol intoxication can trigger sleepwalking.

Sedative/hypnotics (drugs that promote sleep), neuroleptics (drugs used to treat psychosis), minor tranquillizers (drugs that produce a calming effect), stimulants (drugs that increase activity), and antihistamines (drugs used to treat symptoms of allergy) can cause sleepwalking.

Treated with regular exercise, avoid smoking and caffeine drinks.

Use benzodiazepines or relaxation techniques may useful. Please consult your doctor, he will examine and treat you accordingly.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
