What Causes Constant Bloating, Nausea And Back Pain?

Had a hida scan today due to constant bloating and pain with nausea since 2007. Haven t had a diagnosis yet. Lots of tests done but nothing found yet. Lately got pain in my back (middle and under my reb cage). Feels like there is a band around my rib cage squeezing me. Any ideas? Ann B.

Hi,

Constant bloating, nausea, and back pain can be caused by various medical conditions. One possible cause could be a gastrointestinal disorder such as irritable bowel syndrome (IBS), inflammatory bowel disease (IBD), or gastroparesis. These conditions can cause abdominal discomfort, bloating, and nausea.

Another possible cause of these symptoms could be related to the gallbladder, such as cholecystitis (inflammation of the gallbladder) or gallstones. A HIDA scan can be used to diagnose these conditions by measuring the function of the gallbladder. The pain in your back that feels like a band around your rib cage could be related to your gallbladder or a spinal issue, such as a herniated disc or spinal stenosis.

Other potential causes of bloating, nausea, and back pain include liver disease, pancreatic disorders, and kidney problems. It is important to follow up with your healthcare provider and provide them with a detailed medical history, as well as any previous test results or diagnostic imaging studies, to help with making an accurate diagnosis and developing an appropriate treatment plan.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Priyanka, General & Family Physician
