What Causes Constant Chronic Abdominal Pain In A Child?

My 9 year old daughter has had severe, severe pain in her lower stomach for 3 weeks. I took her to the er 3 weeks ago tonight after her crying for 5 hours and me trying everything I could think of. they did ct and bloodwork and said she has mesenteric lymph nodes in the lower quadrant of her abdomen. was given phenegram for the sick at stomach and omnicef (250 ml X2). she was still suffering and I took her to a new pediatrician about 3 days later. She said to give her mirilax 2 times a day for 6 months and then come back and then go to once a day. and take motrin for the pain. I told her already tried motrin and it doesn t work at all. she said she would have to deal with it!. Still severe pain going on. Took her Instant care dr and she said stop the mirilax and sent us to the hospital for mors bloodwork, chest x rays and urine test. She never did get back with me about the results. I called and she didn t return my call. I took her back to er and sat in there for 5 hours (they were slammed busy) and didn t even check in on her. but luckily I had given her pain meds that I still had when she had her tonsils out form 2 years ago. and was sleeping and eased up with the pain. Dr finally came in and ordered more bloodwork, and xrays. then said he couldn t find anything wrong and didn t know what was causing the pain. gave her amoxicillin. this was a few days ago. I have narrowed it down to pain when she lays down. she can be up all day and have mild pain but when she lays down it is screaming excrutiating. any ideas. I am at my witts end that this little girl is in so much pain.

Hi dear,

I can understand how difficult it is for a parent to see his child in pain, stay strong and you are doing very well so far, just to sooth you down as long as the Doctors has done the above mentioned tests, mainly CT and not finding anything serious so far then you can rest assure that your daughters situation is mild and will go some time soon.

The cause of abdominal is usually difficult to trace once tests show normal results.

If you came to my clinic and i see that all tests seem normal i would consider doing Allergy test, to rule out possibility that your daughter is possibly allergic to some kind of food.

I will give you below the possible causes of your daughters situation and what you should do ..

1.It's very possible that you are daughter has Lactose in tolerance or allergy to milk protein, they are both not the same but they can be both caused by dairy containing food or drinks, what you should do for now is try to avoid giving her anything with dairy or anything that contains milk for a week or two and look for improvement of symptoms

2.IBS (irritable bowel syndrome ), if you visit a Doctor again talk to them about possibility of IBS so they can consider to evaluate her well and see if she has symptoms of IBS , the doctor will look the abdominal pain time and defecation and consistency of stool.

My advice is that for now continue giving her ibuprofen to reduce pain and stop giving her any food that has any diary products and see if she gets better soon..

Wishing you and your daughter all the best, and i hope she gets better soon...
