What Causes Constant Cough And Metallic Taste In The Mouth?

My 23 year old Son is complaining of a constant cough with a metal taste in his mouth....he s coughing up only a little bit. This happened 2 weeks ago as well, where he almost lost his voice. He s been complaining about being hot (not temperature wise, but like a hot flash or getting hot quicker than normal). He s HIV+, and his # s are really great...he takes Prezcobix & Truvada! He s also on blood pressure meds. (2 of them and I don t know the name of them)! Just wondering if this could me a reaction to some of these meds., allergies, or Thyroid issues!

General Surgeon 's  Response
Hello,

It might be due to chronic infection.

Consult a pulmonologist and plan for an X-ray and sputum study.

A short course of antibiotics preferably levofloxacin can be tried.

You can also try expectorant cough syrups for symptomatic relief.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Shinas Hussain,
General & Family Physician
