Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
Hi, for several years now I have very thick mucus with a constant cough and I tire very easily, drinking large amounts of water helps a little, but not enough to get rid of this. I have never smoked and other than that I appear very healthy. every year my doctor prescribes prednisone and an inhaler but that does absolutely nothing at all but I think he feels as though he s done something and sends me on my way.
As per your query you have symptoms of constant cough and thick phlegm which is due to bacterial or viral infection of upper respiratory tract. Need not to worry. I would suggest you to do warm saline gargles 3 to 4 times a day.
Take Ibuprofen one tablet twice daily. Milk boiled with a pinch of turmeric taken at bedtime for can be relieving as it has antimicrobial properties. You should avoid spicy food. You should get ASO titres monitored as if ASO titres are very high means level of infection is high so proper examination is required.
Visit ENT specialist once and get it examined and start treatment after proper diagnosis. Take soft foods to avoid irritation to the throat. Throat lozenges one every 4 hours is helpful. Drink lukewarm water throughout the day as it can provide relief.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
Dr. Harry Maheshwari,
Dentist
