What Causes Constant Cough In A Child Despite Nebulising With Duolin?

Hello sir/madam My daughter is 4 years old. 1 year back she developed severe cough which used ro start after sleep. Doctor prescribed asthalin MDI and budecort. She was fine for 3 months. Now she develops same problem every now and then even when taking FORACORT MDI regularly for past 4 months. She has been advised duolin respule nebuliser. I am doing that for past 2 days but severe and continuous cough is present. Nebulising with duolin plus 5ml saline 4 times a day. Plus 2 puffs asthalin MDI 6 times a day plus 1 puff FORACORT 2 times a day. Please suggest something. She doesn t have breathlessness or wheezing etc. Just continuous coughing. Doctor said chest is clear. Please reply. Thanks in advance

Hi Dear ,

Welcome to HCM.

Understanding your concern. As per your query your daughter have symptoms of constant cough despite nebulising with Duolin which is due to severe upper respiratory tract infection. The infection is probably a strep throat. Although you taking so much of medication and not getting benefitted. Need not to worry. I would suggest you to start with course of antibiotics and anti-inflammatory drugs. Avoid giving cold beverages. You should take mast cell stabilizers to prevent from infection. I would suggest you to consult ENT specialist without any delay . Doctor may order blood test , throat swab test or virus culture test. You should get an x ray of the chest. Doctor may prescribe antibiotics amoxicillin at least for 10 days along with mucolytic agents. Go for complete blood count. You should avoid hot, sharp and spicy foods. For now do warm saline rinses , take rest.
