What Causes Constant Diarrhoea Post Cholecystectomy?

Hello. Recently, my mom went to the doctor to see if the doctor would write out an excuse for switching from midnights to days. She s 63 years old and has had three surgeries in one year. Her last one she had her gallbladder removed. Now with some of the thing she eats, she has constant diarrhea. She can t control her diet on midnights even with medications. She has gained 20 pounds in four months. I feel that it is effecting my mothers health. But the doctor says find a different job and won t sign an excuse because she says there isn t anything wrong health wise. Should she find another doctor? Or would it be a waste of time.

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,

Your symptoms seem to be related to postcholecystectomy syndrome. I suggest using anti-diarrhea medications, such as loperamide (Imodium A-D). Medications that impair absorption of bile acids, such as cholestyramine.

Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Dorina Gurabardhi, General & Family Physician
