What Causes Constant Dizziness And Poor Appetite In An Elderly Man?
Hi. My husband age 85 has constant dizziness. He s had all testing and everything comes back with no diagnosis. He has no energy and appetite is down. I am a nurse and wondered what answer you might have as far as a treatment for the symptoms. No diagnosis has been given for him and he just sits all day in a chair, no interest in life. Could it be a problem in the brain area that controls balance? He can t walk alone, can t stand up and I feel so helpless.
Dizziness at 85 could definitely be an alarming symptom, keeping in mind the general fatigue and polypharmacy. I would recommend you to keep him hydrated, though you have mentioned that most of his blood tests have come normal, I would like to remind that you have to run through a vitamin B12 test. Low levels of vitamin D and B12 could also precipitate dizziness. Also, does he have any cervical spine problem? The recommendation now would be to keep him hydrated, let him have small frequent and nutritious meals like fruits and vegetables which suit him.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
Dr. Haleema Yezdani, General & Family Physician
