What Causes Constant Drainage From The Perforated Ear Drum Of A Child?
My eight year old s ear drum perforated on Saturday. We saw a doctor and he has been taking antibiotics orally. It s now Tuesday and his ear is still leaking and he still has earache and a temperature. Is this normal? Doctor we saw on Saturday said he should have been well enough for school yesterday
I have gone through your query and can understand your concerns..
As per your complain ear ache along with leaking ear are indications of ear infection and as he is already taking antibiotics it can however be helping although the progress might be slow..
Secondly along with antibiotics he should also take anti-inflammatory painkillers like Ibuprofen for relieving pain..
As he has a perforated eardrum it can further worsen and there can even be loss of hearing.. I would suggest you to consult an Otolaryngologist and get evaluated and a thorough clinical evaluation and investigations like otoscopy, x ray etc can help in diagnosis..
He can be advised antibiotic and analgesic ear drops along with oral antibiotics and painkillers and at times manual drainage of ears along with placement of pressure equalization tubes and correction of the perforated eardrum by tympanoplasty procedure can help..
Hope this information helps..
Thanks and regards. Dr.Honey Nandwani Arora.
