Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
What Causes Constant Fatigue After Discontinuing Zyrtec?
I normally take Zyrtec daily for my allergies, however, I ran out of it (I live overseas) and so started taking Claritin 10mg which I also have at home. Since I ve been taking the Claritin, I ve been experiencing constant fatigue and I feel tired all the time. Are my symptoms the side effect of the Claritin? I know that definitely Benadryl can produce those symptoms. Thank you,
Claritin is in one class with Zyrtec and has less side effects and causes less fatigue compared to benadryl but still it does have a chance to cause this so it might be that the fatigue is related to Claritin use. Taking it at night reduces this effect and should help you feel better during the night.
On the other hand if the fatigue is there for longer then 3 weeks then you will need to have a visit with your doctor to rule out other possible causes of fatigue.
I hope I have answered to your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Take care
Regards, Antoneta Zotaj, General & Family Physician
