Hello,
Before deciding to continue current medications to reduce fever, it is important to know the source of fever, because if she has a bacterial infection such as
ear infection, then she should take antibiotic treatment to bring the temperature down.
Otherwise, her fever will continue even with above two
antipyretic treatments.
If she has symptoms that explain her current fever such as
upper respiratory infection symptoms with
nasal congestion, cough and runny nose without any signs of ear infection or strep
throat infection, then it is okay to control her fever with mefanorm and Calpol on an alternative basis, at least an hour apart.
Flu (
Influenza) can also cause such high spiking fever, so it is important to differentiate the source of fever because flu does not need any antibiotic treatment other than supportive treatment.
If she has increased temperature few hours after the dose of mefanorm, then you may give her a dose of Calpol every 4 hours as needed, then alternate with mefanorm every 6 hours as needed.
If her temp is more than 104F even with above two medications, please take her to ER because such high spiking fever that does not reduce with medications can cause complications.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Take care
