Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
What Causes Constant Fever While Having Hypothyroidism?
I have had a low grade fever about 90 percent of the time for 30 days. I have been to 3 doctors, and had the normal blood tests, which prove I did not have a bacterial infection. I am 69 and normally healthy except for hypothyroidism. One doctor chose to double my Synthroid to .50. I have wondered if I might have West Nile virus. I live in South Texas.
Any infection, including the West Nile Virus, would show changes in the white cell count. The total count should be increased and there would be changes in the types of white blood cells.
Neutrophils tend to respond to bacterial infections and lymphocytes to viruses, a viral infection, the lymphocyte count is generally increased.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
Dr. Michelle Gibson James, General & Family Physician
