Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
What Causes Constant Hoarseness In Voice And Phlegm In Throat?
I am a 52 yr. old male. I have repeated hoarseness in my voice especially when I am in an air-conditioned area. I have mucous in throat and need to clear my throat. Can you help diagnose my problem? I am unsure if I can treat myself with medicines or if I need to see a doctor. I tried allergy medicine with no success. Thank you very much.
Your symptoms suggest that you might be suffering from laryngitis. This can be treated with mucolytics -drugs which liquify your mucous and bring it out. However, rarely hoarseness of voice might be due to tuberculosis of the larynx or cancer of the larynx. Hence to be on the safe side it is better to consult a ENT surgeon.
