What Causes Constant Pain And Drainage From A Surgical Incision On Knee?

My mother is 86 and had her knee replaced 25 years ago. Last year she had surgery on the same knee to remove infections. Her knee is still very painful and the point of entry will not heal. Before the hole was hit the knee was very swollen and hurt her very much. Since the hole opened it has drained the knee but it will not stop draining. The hole will not close and she cries in pain all the time. She is now a high risk for surgery, what can we do to heal this knee. She is on antibiotics and the dressing is changed everyday. Please help. My email is YYYY@YYYY .

Hi..
Welcome to HEALTHCARE MAGIC..

I have gone through your query and can understand your concern..

As per your complain it seems that she has got prolonged infection at the area of surgery leading to pain and swelling as well as unhealed wound.
You should consult an expert general surgeon and get her evaluated and he can do a clinical evaluation as well as advise her to get a blood sugar examination done as raised blood glucose levels can cause unhealed wounds or delayed healing..
He can also advise her injectable antibiotics and steroids along with oral intake and topical application..
She should also completely avoid water exposure to the wound..
She can take Ibuprofen for pain relief..
Maintain proper cleanliness and hygiene of the area..

Hope this information helps..

Thanks and regards.
