What Causes Constant Pain At The Back Of Legs?

hi, I ve developed pain in the back of both legs. Ive tried heat, ice and moderate exercise to no avail. this has been going on for about 1 month. no changes in diet, activity or stress level but had started on hydralazine 25 mgm bid several months ago. I stopped taking it 4 days ago thinking that might be the problem but the pain/discomfort continues. I can certainly walk, stand etc. but the pain level is constant. I see my regular MD in 2 weeks but wondered if you had any ideas or suggestions. Thank You, Mary Jane

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello Mary Jane and welcome.

The pain at the back of your leg could either be due to a condition of the veins in your legs called varicose veins which develops over time especially in individuals who experience long durations of standing through the day.

Or a condition called sciatica which is pain and discomfort experienced from the lower back region to the back side of your leg till about your mid thigh or knee region. As you have not specified the exact extent of the pain I cannot be too sure, but for now I suspect either of these two conditions.

Best wishes.
