Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I have constant pain Un my left upper abdominal right under my chest. I can t stand up streight at all cause it hurts so bad. It goes away only if I lay down on my side. And the pain eases if I drink something cold but comes right back. Have diareah with this also. Should I go in???
Hello and welcome to HCM, Upper left side of abdomen is the site of spleen, transverse colon, ribs and pleura. Pain in upper left side of abdomen under chest could be due to involvement of spleen by some pathological process. Trauma to spleen can cause damage to the parenchyma and thus the pain. Relation of pain with movement suggests that the pain is pleural in origin. Pleura is the covering of the lungs. Infection and inflammation of the pleura can cause pain which changes with change in position. Associated diarrhea may not be associated with the pain in upper left side abdomen. I suggest to consult your physician for clinical assessment and ultrasound abdomen. Ultrasound abdomen will determine the status of abdominal organs. Further management will depend on the findings of clinical assessment and ultrasound abdomen.
Thanks and take care Dr Shailja Puri
