What Causes Constant Pain Under The Breast And Shoulder Blade?

I have been having a constant pain just under my breat on the left, between the rib cage. I also have a constant, dull pain on the left side under my shoulder blade in the same region as the other pain. This has been going on for a couple of weeks. I have taken some falls in the last two months and sprained my back. The X-rays showed no fractures of the spine. That was my first two falls. I tripped twice 10 days ago, and it seems I noticed these symptoms after that. I have MS and am 63 years old, female. I am doing well with medications and people wouldn t know I had any infliction.

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi,

It does sound like you are having musculoskeletal pain, possibly a muscle strain related to your falls.

Since the X-ray didn't show any fractures of the spine and I assume no fractures in the ribs, I would continue to give it time to heal.

If you don't have any kidney or stomach issues, you could take Ibuprofen for the pain. If after another few weeks the pain is not getting better or is becoming intolerable, then I would suggest seeing your doctor.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Aaron Branch,
