What Causes Constant Phlegm In The Throat While On Lipitor And Beta Blockers?

I have chronic mucus running down my throat, which is nasty of course. I thought it was air pollution (I live in Shanghai) but it started very suddenly about two years ago. About two years ago I also began taking 1/2 lipitor daily and 1/2 beta blocker daily due to irregular heartbeat. Could those be the cause? Thank you.

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,

I think the constant phlegm could be as a reaction to meds you started 2 years ago.

However, if I was your caring doctor would recommend running upper endoscopy to rule out GERD or other hyperacidity problems of the stomach.

Chest X-ray is also recommended to determine the right diagnosis. I advise to stop taking Lipitor for 1 month and observe if phlegm is reduced or completely gone to understand if it is from Lipitor.

Discuss this further with your caring doctor.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Take care

Regards,
