Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
What Causes Constant Sore Throat Despite Taking Medications?
I recently went to my doctor complaining of a sore throat. She told me that I had some kind of nasal drip and that it was not strep. She told me to buy nasacort (over the counter) and take 2x s a day for 2 days in each nostril. She also prescribed amoxicillin. The systems have not gone away and only gotten worse. Sore throat, mucus, runny nose and nasal congestion. I have an appetite but vomit most food and medicine.
As there is severe vomiting with inability to tolerate oral intake in terms of liquids and food, there must be grave underlying infection not controlled with amoxicillin. There can be part of Whooping cough or other condition needs to be evaluated in details.
Following measures will help you for better recovery: - Gargles with salted lukewarm water added peppermint oil - Avoid all sorts of cold drinks, aerated beverages, spices, non veg, junk items, dairy fat - Benzyl pearls type lozenges - Anti-tussive cough formulas - Discuss the need of culture report of swab for the microbiology diagnosis - Avoid smoking or alcohol if consuming
Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
Dr. Bhagyesh V. Patel, General Surgeon
