Hi.
Thanks for your query.
Noted the history about your 4 year old who has undergone
tonsillectomy and
adenoidectomy 5 days back but has developed pain in abdomen, refuses to take medicines orally hence give
Paracetamol as suppository.
Ibuprofen is not available as suppository in Australia. Wants to know the cause and whether related to ulcer, empty stomach, reaction to medication and should you take him to the Doctor.
This is a rare occurrence of having pain in abdomen of a 4 year old child who has undergone Tonsillectomy and Adenoidectomy 5 days ago.
The most probable cause can be:
Tummy tonsils means enlarged
lymph nodes in the abdomen.
Appendicitis.
Gastroenteritis in sub-acute form, may be
stomach flu.
Or intolerance to something that you might have started to give recently.
I would advise you the following in such a situation:
Yes, take him to the Doctor, preferably a
General Surgeon or a Pediatric Surgeon for clinical evaluation, examination and investigations of blood, stool and urine;
ultrasound of the whole abdomen can help to get the correct diagnosis and plan a proper management.
Stop anything unusual that you might have started with.
By 5 days the adenoid and tonsil area wounds almost heal hence Paracetamol and Ibuprofen may not be needed.
