What Causes Constant Swelling In Ankle And Foot?

I am a 60 year old man and I have chronic swelling, but no real pain, in my left ankle and foot. I am in good health and on my feet alot, but I have never had persistant swelling, without being injured. I was a runner for many years, but don t anymore. However I do walk about 3 miles a day. I went to my Family Doctor had an ultrasound run, which came back negitive. He was checking for deep vein thrombosis. I am taking anti inflammatories (2 Naproxen) morning and night and my blood pressure medicine has a diuretic in it, and I still have swelling. I have encountered bouts with swelling before but never this ofter nor this long. What is happening?

HI
Well come to HCM
I really appreciate your concern, such swelling could be due long time standing position, second it could be due to renal disease, it may be anemia, all this condition needs testing and differentiation, till then try to keep the leg in elevated position, (Paddle edema may be the cause ) without knowing the underlying cause it can not be treated hope this information helps.
