Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
My 7 year old is constantly clearing her throat. We have already been to a G.I. Appointment and they ruled out the narrowing of her throat and they ruled out that her intestines are twisted. She only wants to eat yogurt or ice cream...everything else is too hard to swallow. She obviously has acid reflux with spitting saliva all the time, but we are going crazy with her constantly clearing her throat and she can t eat anything other than yogurt or ice cream.
Throat clearing habit may form dye to Acid reflux, let her get physically examined & properly treated for acid reflux. In the meantime, avoid giving her packaged food, soft drinks, oily junk food. She should take homemade food along with berries, fruits & veggies.
She may need antacids & PPI's. Give medicines under a treating GP. Sometimes, constant throat clearing is indicative of allergy, asthma or stress. Help her stay away from any anxiety or stress as it may trigger shortness of breath. She may need antihistamines. Help her stay well hydrated. Get her examined, get her treated.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
Dr. Nupur K, General & Family Physician
