What Causes Constant Tickling Sensation In The Chest And Throat?

Hello, I am experiencing a constant tickling sensation in my chest & throat and also a cough. I have a carcinoid tumor on my right lung so I experience this feeling at least once a day but it is temporary and is usually eased up after a few minutes of excessive coughing but this feeling will not go away this evening and has persisted for several hours. Should I be concerned (it is very annoying!)

General & Family Physician 's  Response
HI , thanks for using healthcare magic

It is possible that the ticking sensation and cough is not related at all to the carcinoid tumor but may be due to the most common cause of these symptoms- post nasal drip of mucus.

Post nasal drip is the most common cause for persistent coughing. It can be due to infection or allergic response to an allergen (dust, food, pollen, animal dander, medication).

The use of an antihistamine/decongestant combination may help, these are over the counter medications eg include zyrtec d, allegra d, claritine d, benadryl d.
Because these may not work immediately, you may add a cough suppressant.

I hope this helps
