What Causes Constant Unexplained Back Pain Despite Taking Medications?

My 13 year old son has had unexplained back pain above right kidney since April 7th. Had blood in his urine APRIL 7, 8, 10 ONLY. He has had a rising C reactive protein, high uric acid. Every other blood test that was checked was normal. His immune check; the first level IgA was 48 points low, 2nd one normal, 3rd one 52 point low and 4th was normal. His titers to child immunizations was in the right range. He has high doses of pain meds that are a result of a morphine 24 pump during our last hospital stay. He is still in overwhelming writhing pain and the medication wears off before time for more. Please, if you have any idea of what his problem could be or some place to take him that could help him....please advise. He has been healthy until now.

Anesthesiologist 's  Response
Hello,

1) Excruciating pain in the right kidney region (flank)
2) Blood in urine
3) Elevated CRP and uric acid

So these are the probable causes:
1) Urinary tract infections
2) Kidney stones (most common cause)
3) Kidney infection
4) Nephrotic syndrome
5) Few back problems like herniated intervertebral disc, arthritis, fractures
6) Shingles or herpes zoster
7) Abdominal aortic aneurysm

I would recommend you to visit a nephrologist for thorough clinical examination and appropriate treatment. I would suggest the following for treatment:
1) Drink more and more water
2) Eat right and balanced diet
3) Always urinate as the urge starts as prolonged storage of urine in bladder also leads to infections
4) Tab. Urispas 100 mg 2 times a day is effective in pain relief
5) Kidney ultrasound would help in diagnosis

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Pallavi M., Anesthesiologist
