What Causes Constipation And Urge To Pass Stool In A Child?
We have a 3 yr old that has tried to poop since Fri His mom gave him a partial capful of Miralax Mon nite. Directions are 2 to 3 capfuls of med every 4 hrs as needed. He has pooped 2 times today, Tue, lg formed not loose at all. But he continues to grunt hard & thinks he needs to poop. No one is sleeping or doing anything. He won t sit or lay down or eat or play. Appears to be miserable. He cries owie the whole time you are changing him. Says it hurts to lay down. What can we do for him? Do we need to give him something to stop the urge @ if so what.

Hi,
It seems the hard stool jas caused mild trauma to delicate anal mucosa giving him something to be sticking there.A small injury there may give pain too, so the baby tries to strain down.
You can help by inserting an anal glycerine suppository delicately ina is. Press both the butt cheeks closed for some time &then release the remain stools comfortably out.
-Now clean with cotton dipped in warm water .. this would relieve the pain & inflammation there. Dry it
- Apply vaseline with antibiotic ointment.
- Fresher light nutritive light food.
-Give over the counter Ibugesic syrup 1/2 spoon with water & let the baby relax.

The symptoms of the child seem to be related to constipation. I suggto continue giving Miralax to help with the symptoms. If the constipation continues, I suggest to use enemas. I recommend to give him liquids and a fiber rich diet.
