What Causes Constipation In A COPD Patient Despite Using Lactose?

Hello ,my father was admitted to hospital 13 days ago because he had become Hypoxic with COPD ,sent back home 4 days ago with new meds.He has didn t have a bowel movement during his stay in hospital and they sent him home with Lactulose ,still no bowel movement and I`m now worried as he isn t eating cos he feels full .

hello there ..thank you for your query..
As you said your father is a COPD patient and he was also admitted in the hospital for that.
There are chance that your father must be getting anticholinergic drugs which are given to copd patients to relieve their symptoms.these drugs have side effects and constipation is one of them(as these drugs decrease gastric motility).
Give him lactulose as advised ..ask him to have fibrous diet and salads.if still symptoms persist ,visit your doctor as he is only can change his medicines.
