My son is 28 days old and has not been pooping daily. He is breastfeed. When he came home from the hospital, he went 9 days without pooping. I took him to th ER and was told that it’s normal for breastfeed babies. I can tell he is in pain. What should I do
Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service. I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.
Constipation is quite common in breast fed babies. It might be due to mothers food habits and sometimes maternal iron supplements can cause constipation to baby. No need to worry as generally it will resolve by it own. You can give lactulose drops to baby if it’s not resolving. four to six drops of lactulose can be given twice or thrice a day.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
