What Causes Constipation While On Metamucil And Dilantin?

Hi, I am taking dilantin (3 then 2 then 3) each day along with 3 Keppras twice daily. I had a brain tumor removed and had seizures as they were taking out my tumor. It has been 1 1/2 years. I have been exercising, drinking 11 glasses of liquid (orange juice, water, coffee (once daily) and sometimes tea. I have also been taking metamucil (2 tsp s daily). My bowels have been moving et slowly. How can I get them to move well?

Hi, constipation is a known common side effect of taking Dilantin (Phenytoin)
If despite taking Metamucil you are not having proper bowel movements, then I would recommend increase in your fibre intake by eating more of leafy green vegetables, decrease coffee intake.
Consult your doctor regarding changing drug if needed.
Hope this answers your question, thank you.
