Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I have had a cough for about a month. Right now when I breathe out it feels like I m wheezing from the throat area. My chest feels tight and my upper back hurts a little. I went to the doctor and she said that I had a sinus infection and fluid in my right ear but that she didn t detect any wheezing. Should i go back because of the wheezing in the throat area? Does that sound weird? I don t know how else to explain it.
You might feel a wheezing like sensation in your throat if your vocal cords or trachea are inflamed or swollen from all the coughing. You also might be having some bronchospasm (wheezing) problems that are actually the main source of the cough. These might be occurring intermittently so that they're not always detectable on exam. A spirometry test can help determine if it's actually wheezing related to the lungs. A feeling of tightness in the chest can also be caused by bronchospasm. If it's continuing to bother you, it might be a good idea to go back to your doctor, get the spirometry test, and mention your specific concerns. Hope this helps.
