What Causes Continuous Hiccups?

My husband had cva/infarc 4 weeks ago and having continuous hiccups lasting 3 days. hes also on hemodialysis just started recently. His primary physician gave him antacid and I gave him omeprazole. Are there any effective medication for hiccups? Thank you so much. Roxanne

Hi,

Thanks for your question on HCM

I do understand your concerns

“As” per your clinical history is concerned do take medications as advised by your doctor and take treatment for other diseases as usual. There is no medication for hiccups as it is not a disease at all and it is a symptom, so try to manage under laying pathology if present which your doctor already prescribed, and he can be given [pantoprazole] in place of [omeprazole]so discuss with your doctor.

Besides it he can do one thing like this -:

Take a glass with cold water. Bend down at the waist and put your head down. Drink the water from the opposite side of the glass than you would normally. If required, repeat and hiccup will disappear soon.
