Hi,
Stents only open the narrowed vessels and does not hit the primary cause of
ischemic heart disease. However the cause of ischemic heart disease is not a simple question and answer.
In fact, there is no cause and we only know about the risks that may increase the chances of the having
atherosclerosis (narrowing of vessel). These risks are divided into two main groups regarding management.
1. Modifiable risks: we can modify and correct them .These include blood pressure,
diabetes,
cholesterol, obesity,
smoking, and few more of minor importance.
2. Nonmodifiable: we can't modify them, like family history, genetics, increasing age, male sex.
So you also need to work on the modifiable risks to decrease them to the minimum level; unfortunately currently we are helpless regarding the non modifiable.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
