Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I have recently had a bad cold with a really bad cough. I had been taking cough drops all day everyday, as soon as i finished one i would put another in my mouth and i would continue it all day taking about 4 to 5 cough drops every hour or 2. I recently noticed in the middle of my tongue there is little sores it feels as if when you drink something hot and burn your tongue the aftermath of it and it bothers me when i brush my teeth and tongue. Is this sore looking patch in the middle of my tongue due to sucking on too many cough drops, should i worry? Will it go away soon?
Cough and cold are caused due to infection in respiratory tract mainly by viruses. So in this case immune system of body become less active and body becomes more prone to infections.
Due to these cough drops which you took on a short hourly basis your tongue got patches because of canker sores. These are painful ulcer like which will cause difficulty in swallowing and eating.
You need not to worry about it. It will go away soon you have to take few preventive measures like avoid food which irritates your mouth. Brush very gently with super soft bristles brush.
