What Causes Cough And Cold Inspite Of Giving Maxtra And Mucolite In Infants?

My son 11 months has been having recurrent ear and chest infections for the past 3 months. Right now almost everything is settled except the cold. He s been on maxtra 2.5 ml bd. For 10 days. Finished one course of antibiotics, augment, two days back. Is it safe to give maxtra for so long? Should I shift to some other medicine? He seems to be fine during day but restless at night. I started giving mucolite yest. Today morning onwards he has cough. Kindly advice.

Hi Dear ,

Welcome to HCM.

Understanding your concern. As per your query your child have symptoms of cough and cold in spite of giving Maxtra and Mucolite which is due to upper respiratory tract infection. Maxtra and Mucolite as given to child is a safe combination except it will make child drowsy. Take proper rest , keep yourself hydrate. Maintain hygiene. Take diet rich in multivitamins. I would suggest you to consult pediatrician for proper examination as infection has already spread. You should get throat swab test, complete blood profile to find out extent of infection. You should start with antibiotic such as augmentin along with decongestants and anti inflammatory such as Levocetirizine . For now do warm saline gargles. Take steam inhalation.

Hope your concern has been resolved.
