What Causes Cough And Congestion Along With Red Spots On Tongue?

My two and a half year old has had a chesty cough for a week now and today I checked his tongue and it's white with lots of red tiny spots all over it. He does seem to have a temp but generally during the day he is fine just a bit naughty sometimes which can be because he is sick. Should I see a doctor?

Hi..
Welcome to HEALTHCARE MAGIC..

I have gone through your query and can understand your concerns..

As per your complain it seems that cough and congestion is due to Upper Respiratory Tract Infection also known as Common Cold and white tongue can be due to Yeast infection known as Oral Thrush..
Red dots can be inflamed tongue papillae secondary to infection..
I would suggest you to consult a Paediatrician or an Otolaryngologist and get evaluated and he can do Clinical examination and also advise throat swab culture to confirm the cause..
In case of upper respiratory infection he can be advised to take anti allergics like Benadryl, anti inflammatory painkiller like Ibuprofen,, decongestant like Phenylephrine and saline nasal drops to ease I'm drainage of mucous..
Doing warm saline gargles and steam inhalation will help..
For white tongue consult an Oral Physician or Pedodontist and get evaluated and he can advise anti-fungal mouthwash and clotrimazole lozenges..
Add Yoghurt and Garlic to his diet as they are Probiotics..
Maintain a good Oral hygiene..

Hope this information helps..

Thanks and regards.
