What Causes Cough And Wheezing After Choking Upon Food?

I aspirated a small piece of bacon a week ago (last Sunday). I did cough up the bacon piece 4 days later Thursday). It has now been a week since I inhaled the bacon and 3 days since I coughed it out. My voice is raspy and I m still coughing, though considerably less than before I ejected the food particle on Thursday. I snored extremely loudly last night (said my poor husband). I am not wheezing upon inhaling since I coughed out the food, however, when I exhale forcefully, it s a wheezing sound. Beginning this morning, my ears feel like they are popping (similar to what happens during change in air pressure, but less severe). I also have had a few occasional seconds of vision blacking out. When I shut my eyes tightly, I hear roaring in my ears. I am healthy, have never aspirated before, and do not suffer from asthma or any immune system disorders. Just wondering if I might have an inflamed trachea or start of bronchitis/pneumonia. No sure if I should see a doctor. Thanks for your help.

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,

I think you might be experiencing possible bronchitis from the inflammed aspirated bacon. I think it's time to see a lung specialist, run chest X-ray to make sure there is no particle inside and to treat the infection/inflammation if set.

For the moment, I can only advise to keep good oral hygiene, rinse your nostrils well; apply saline spray on nostrils.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Albana Sejdini,
