What Causes Cough, Fever, Chills, Body Ache And Painful Swallowing?

I have been sick over 10 days now...weak, coughing, phlegm. In the beginning I had fever, chills body ache and painful swallowing all of which went away after about a week, except the painful swallowing. During the day my throat feels fine but after about 8:00pm the painful returns. It s keeping me up at night. Wondering if there is a condition that cause this and if I may need to be treated with antibiotics.

Hi,

You are suffering from respiratory tract infection. In many cases it is viral and it settles on its own after a week or 10 days but in your case its taking long plus the sputum is present. So it is likely you will need broad spectrum antibiotics to recover from this condition.

Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Saddiq Ulabidin, General & Family Physician
