Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
My father is 86. He had some difficulty swallowing. Difficulty was attributed to a silent stroke. He has a G tube and has relearned how to swallow. An upper GI showed no abnormalities in esophagus or stomach. An esophogram is pending because he continues to feel full after eating very little. Also, he coughs up clear mucus very often. Not sure if mucus is coming from lungs or esophagus. No one seems to have any answers. Espohogram may tell something. Planning on arranging appointment with pulmonologist because cough seems to be from lungs. Any ideas about origin of cough?
I will suggest you to proceed for oesophagoram. There are certain problem which are present out of lumen and further workup with a ct scan may be required if esophagogram turns out to be normal. Feeling of fullness, difficulty swallowing usually lead to regurgitation of food particles and mild leakage of food contents into the trachea. It is either a part of stroke or secondary to regurg of food due to this swallowing problem.
Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
Dr. Muhammad Faisal Bacha, Internal Medicine Specialist
