What Causes Cough While On Lisinopril?

I recently started taking Lisinopril, after taking it for three weeks I started out with a slight cough which has steady got worse. Should I stop taking it I am already taking Lisinopril? I currently taking Metoprolol I have been taking it for two years. My email YYYY@YYYY thank you Robert Kennedy

hello , thanks for your post , lisinopril belongs to the family of the ACE inhibitor and this group has in common this side effect , which occurs through a mechanism little known , in general there is no medicine between this group that don't has this possible collateral effect , including captopril and enalapril effect seem to have higher incidence of cough , so change it for a drug of the same group would not be very good , I recommend first confirming that actually cough is caused by the medication because it could be a not relationed drug problem , second: do is drug essential or could use an antagonist of angiotensin receptor which has similar mechanism of action, or it could be replaced with other antihypertensive agent, and thirdly if it's necessary that the patient take it then you have to start taking medication to neutralize this cough:cromolyn , theophylline or another antitussive , but all this medication must be supervised by a professional , I hope to help you...
