Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I have been taking Vyvanse at 50mg for my ADHD for a little over a week now. Near the end of the 40mg dose (before my increase) I began to experience a slight cough. Seems to be irritated in the upper chest. This seems to occur in the late afternoon. Sometimes over night, if I have not taken my sleeping pill. I am reading that this may be a tic . Will the tic improve as my nervous system adjusts to the medication? There is absolutely no coughing in the beginning of the day. I take my medication around 8 am. It is not painful...just annoying....and can keep me awake. Thank you.
If true cough, this is unlikely related to the drug, and may be from a viral or allergic insult. Vyvanse can cause vocal tic as a side effect, but here it will be some odd and involuntary sounds coming from mouth/throat, rather than true cough.
Kindly discuss with your doctor if it feels like tic. If true cough, try an antihistamine like Levocetirizine at night for 5 days, we can evaluate further if it is persisting.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Take care
Regards,
Dr. Muhammed Aslam TK
